Case Study 

Challenge: International investor looked for possibility to participate a tender for iron ore large deposit held with authorities of one of the states in Central Asia. A deposit with commercial reserves in 535 mln tons and prospective reserves in 1.2 bln tons of ore contains high phosphorus (up to 0.8%). Our client wanted to decide if it would be possible to reduce phosphorus content in ore to a level that allowed to produce HBI (Hot Briqueted Iron).

Approach: ICG made a complex research for the case and identified 3 dephosphorization technologies that might be used in a target deposit (acid leaching; leaching with heating; and flotation technology with use of special binders and depressants).

Value: ICG made design of a complex technology that combines heat-leaching with flotation; it makes it possible to use the ore from the target deposit in HBI production with HYL technology.
